Thin film heterostructures for spintronics

Spintronics is a field of electronics in which not only the charge but also the spin of the electron is used for information storage and transport. Coupling magnetism with different types of order in thin film heterostructures allows new phases to develop at the interfaces and more efficient control of the functionalities. Those phases are investigated by advanced X-ray and neutron scattering methods that use the grazing incidence geometry to make those methods near-surface sensitive.
