Magnetic nanoparticles

Magnetic nanoparticles are currently in the focus of intense research activities. This is not only due to their use in practical applications e.g. as theranostic agents in medicine or as ferrofluids in engineering technologies, but also due to their role as fundamental model systems for nanoscale phenomena.

(c) High resolution TEM image of an iron oxide nanoparticle. (d) Characteristic pattern of the nuclear-magnetic interference term obtained as a difference between spin channels of a SANS experiment with polarized neutrons.

Research Topics

Plants obtain water and mineral nutrients through their roots, and thus roots sustain global biomass productivity. Understanding and improving root development and function in the soil directly impacts the efforts to develop more resource efficient and high yielding plants and agricultural systems.
