Instrumentation

Instruments built at a pulsed HBS are designed in a time-of-flight (TOF) setup and are optimized by the bandwidth they can use and the resolution they need. The repetition rate of the neutron beam should be adopted in such a way that the maximal useful phase space volume is filled. For a facility as HBS at least three different repetition rates of about 24 Hz, 96 Hz and 384 Hz are considered. Instruments using these repetition rates are grouped together around the same target station.

Using focusing neutron optics the maximum phase space volume and corresponding neutron flux will be transported from the source to the sample. Concepts to realize this approach are in progress.

A reflectometer and a PGNAA will be realized at the JULIC Neutron Platform utilizing all concepts presented. The instruments will have a length of around 7 m.
