Synchrotron Research

In addition to our laboratory-based research, we engage in manifold synchrotron activities.

A Synchrotron is a „photon factory“ which produces very intense electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths tunable from the UV to hard X-rays. As such, synchrotrons are indispensible tools for cutting-edge research in many fields from biology to materials science.

We regularly perform experiments at a number of third generation synchrotrons which have been optimized for high brilliance, namely the Diamond Light Source in Didcot, UK, Elettra in Trieste, Italy, Bessy II and the PTB Metrology Light Source in Berlin.
