Atomic and molecular spin systems

About

We use state-of-the-art scanning probe microscopes to explore the quantum world of atomic and molecular systems which contain an intrinsic magnetic moment, a quantum spin. In these systems, the interactions of the localized spins with each other and with the itinerant electrons of the hosting substrate leads to interesting collective phenomena ranging from highly correlated many-electron effects to entanglement and tunable quantum phase transitions.

Research Topics

  • Design of atomic and molecular quantum systems
  • Exploiting functionalized tips on magnetic systems
  • Emergent properties in 2D van der Waals heterostructures
  • Developing of a simulation package for arbitrary spin systems
