Clinical Neuroanatomy

Only if and when the performance of our movements is disturbed, we do realize how much in life depends on the precise execution of movements. Even though the likelihood of movement disorders increases with age, movement disorders can start at any age. Precise grip, clear speech, stable gait without permanent risk of falls or injuries - are far from granted for patients with various types of movement disorders

The research group Clinical Neuroanatomy, headed by PD Dr. med. Martina Minnerop, focuses on the neuroanatomical causes of different movement disorders within the brain in vivo and post mortem to improve early diagnosis and identify biomarker for potential therapies and to separate genuinely age-related changes of motion from movement disorders.

Recruitment of patients is done in cooperation with university hospitals close by and patient support groups. Our collaboration with the Center for Movement Disorders and Neuromodulation (https://www.uniklinik-duesseldorf.de/patienten-besucher/klinikeninstitutezentren/institut-fuer-klinische-neurowissenschaften-und-medizinische-psychologie/zentrum-fuer-bewegungsstoerungen-und-neuromodulation) at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf facilitates application of fundamental research knowledge advances obtained in Jülich to patient care.
