Hans-Joachim Krause studied Physics and Mathematics at Braunschweig and Aachen. During his doctorate at Forschungszentrum Jülich, he developed a tunable high power laser system and performed nonlinear optical spectroscopy at interfaces. After receiving his Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen University in 1993, he initiated the Nondestructive Evaluation group in the SQUID Application department at Forschungszentrum Jülich, working on projects together with several industrial and research partners for the development of SQUID systems for magnetic testing of aircraft parts, prestressed concrete bridges and other structures. In summer 2011, he was a guest professor at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. Since 2017, he is a Professor of Physics at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. He leads the Magnetic Field Sensors group, focusing on magnetic biosensing, magnetic immunoassays with frequency mixing magnetic detection, and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance.
