Volunteers Wanted!

A look inside your brain?

We are often looking for study participants for our MRI research. Join us and support science as a volunteer.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - What is it?

Magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive procedure that works without the need for X-rays. Instead, the inside of the body is imaged in slices using radio waves and magnetic fields. The signals generated inside the body are then processed to produce highly detailed images that can also be viewed in three dimensions.

General MRI examination procedure

During the examination, you will lie, relaxed, on an examination table in the cylindrical opening of the MRI machine. You will be provided with hearing protection, as a strong knocking noise can be heard during the measurement, which is caused by the electrical switching processes in the MRI machine. You are in constant contact with the examiners via an intercom system and can request to be taken out of the MRI machine at any time. Apart from possible discomfort from lying motionless for as long as possible, the examination is painless.

While lying in the MRI machine, you may be asked to perform one or more tasks, depending on the study. The task will be explained to you in detail before the examination begins. Images of your brain will be taken while you perform these tasks so that we can find out which areas of the brain were involved in the task.

The requirements to be a study volunteer are:

You do not have any metal parts in your body (e.g. pacemaker, drug pump, dental implants, metal screws from operations).

We welcome volunteers who can usually spare 2 to 3 hours, depending on the study, and who are happy to let us look inside their brain as part of science.
