First IAS-9 Institute Retreat

Aachen, 18. November 2021

IAS-9 institute members got together on 21 and 22 October at Burg Obbendorf, Niederzier, for the very first institutes retreat. The retreat provided the sorely missed opportunity for in person communication, idea exchange and poster presentations.

After an opening talk by Prof. Dr. Stefan Sandfeld - Director of the Institute - each of the three topical areas of the IAS-9 presented an overview of the scientific work in short group presentations:

• "Materials Theory, Modeling and Simulation"
• "Data Analysis and Machine Learning"
• "Concepts and Software Tools for Research Data"

Relaxed poster sessions allowed for more detailed questions and discussions until late in the evening. In addition, FZJ coach Dr. Christine Issa engaged the team in creative activities like a "World Café" and helped to "kick off" the institute - exciting!
